SQL Surveyor 1.0 Review
Posted on Apr 27, 2005
I recently purchased SQL Surveyor 1.0 released by Web Relevant, which many of you may have read about on Jared Rypka-Hauer's blog. Basically, the application allows you to view all of the metadata from a sql datasource, including views and stored procedures (it does not allow you to modify these resources - which is as it should be).
New Post-Merger Product Names
Posted on Apr 19, 2005
I am reserving any opinion on the merger news until I know more, but I did think it would be fun to brainstorm some new post-merger names for the combined Adobe/Macromedia products.
- Fireready (Fireworks/ImageReady)
- GoWeave (GoLive/Dreamweaver)
- Freehator (Freehand/Illustrator)

What browser do you design for?
Posted on Apr 14, 2005
I was reading an article on Yahoo! News (available here) about the rapid growth of Firefox, particularly the story focused on traffic to the Mozilla site. A quote in the article from Nielsen analyst Ken Cassar went as follows:
"It was looking as though Microsoft Explorer was in the process of establishing itself as the standard browser, which was great news for site developers," Cassar said. "With Firefox on the rise, they have to grudgingly accept that they don't live in a one-browser world."
This struck me as odd, since most every developer I know is designing for Firefox and then making it compatible with IE (and grudgingly so). Is my perception mistaken?
Transparent PNGs as Backgrounds in IE
Posted on Apr 12, 2005
Apologies if this is old news to anyone, but as I am not a designer, I did some research to resolve the problem of using transparent/semi-transparent PNGs as background images and found a site that offered a cross-browser solution on "A List Apart" that worked very well.
New Design for BlogCFC - Thanks OSWD!
Posted on Apr 07, 2005
I finally put a new design on my site courtesy of OSWD (as always). This time I included updating Raymond Camden's blog application, which seems to have gone pretty smoothly. The design I chose is dittoditto by Christopher Ditto. The changes to the BlogCFC were easy enough, but I had to add in an "overflow: scrollable" attribute to the code view to keep the width in line (just adding width caused the text to go outside the bounding box). I kinda like the way that worked out anyway. Let me know what you think.
