eWeek Article - Adobe Should Open-Source Macromedia Castoffs

Posted on May 03, 2005

Jim Rapoza of eWeek has written an article that mostly ponders the future of products under a merged Adobe/Macromedia ending with a plea for them to open-source cast-offs. You can read the whole article at Yahoo! News. Specifically related to ColdFusion, he states:

"More worrisome to me are the server- and developer-oriented products. ColdFusion is still very popular with many Web developers, and, for the most part, Macromedia has done a good job of enhancing it. I think his underlying premise, that the server products as a whole are the most "worrisome" holds up though, even if I do not buy into any doomsday predictions.

I think why many ColdFusion developers are worried is because a product like ColdFusion does not seem like a natural fit in Adobe's portfolio. We are simply left just with the question "Why would Adobe cast-off a popular and profitable product?"
