Gaim 2 beta 2 is out

Posted on Jan 24, 2006

The new beta release of Gaim 2.0 is out. I used the early beta at home and while I liked some of the features, and felt it was a step forward, it was a very rough cut. However, the feedback they received leads me to believe this will be a much more refined release.

Open-Source JavaScript Effects Library

Posted on Jan 20, 2006

I found this on the Wired news site. It's a very lightweight (3kb) JavaScript library for generating some very nice page effects (see page for examples) called moo.fx. The description from the site is the following:

moo.fx is a superlightweight, ultratiny, megasmall javascript effects library, written with prototype.js.

It's easy to use, fast, cross-browser, standards compliant, provides controls to modify Height, Width, and Opacity with builtin checks that won't let a user break the effect with multiple crazy clicks. It's also optimized to make you write the lesser code possible.

It's definitely worth checking out.

The Boston CFUG is Alive!

Posted on Jan 16, 2006

The Boston CFUG is back from the dead! I have already received tentative approval from Adobe to move ahead with re-establishing the Boston CFUG. I have already set up the site at BostonCFUG.org (note: if you don't see it yet it's because the DNS may still be propogating). It also appears that we have a potential meeting location (but more on that when it is confirmed). I am now in the process of trying to arrange a speaker(s) for the first meeting and (obviously) setting a date and time for the first meeting (at which point this can all become official). If you are interested, go ahead and enter your email in the subscribe box on the Boston CFUG site. If you are a potential speaker and might be available to attend the meeting, please let me know! Here's hoping I can generate enough interest to keep a healthy and vibrant CFUG in Boston.

Unofficial Boston ColdFusion Meetup?

Posted on Jan 12, 2006

Those of you who have followed my blog know that I have bemoaned the lack of a functioning Boston ColdFusion User Group for some time (well, for most of the year and a half that I have lived here). At one point there seemed as if there might be hope, but no such luck. In fact, the site appears to be dead, and a search for user groups on the adobe website does not turn up the CFUG as it once did.

Does this mean that perhaps we have come beyond the technical issues that have prevented us from restarting this group? I am not sure yet, but I do hope to find out. To that end, I went ahead and submitted an application requesting to know if the group could be refounded before I pursue the official group status any further. However, all that being said, I would be willing to attempt to organize an unofficial group social/meeting on local CFers if I could generate any interest. Anyone? Please comment if you would be willing to attend or help organize. If there is interest, I will begin investigating possible dates and venues.
