Building an Application with Transfer ORM

Posted on Oct 22, 2006

Mark Mandel's Transfer object-relational mapping software has only recently started to get some attention after being highlighted by Sean Corfield, who created code to allow Transfer integration in Model-Glue. I am going to walk through building a simple application using Transfer based upon my recent upgrade to the ColdFusion Open Source List. This application will use Transfer with both Mach II and ColdSpring, it should be applicable to anyone who wants to learn the basics of Transfer regardless of their framework of choice, or lack thereof.

New Features on the CF Open Source List

Posted on Oct 21, 2006

So, I am actually kind of productive when the wife and kids are away...even if it is a little too quiet :) I have added several new features to the ColdFusion Open-Source List. Firstly, I have been tracking the click throughs since last weeks upgrade and I started listing the click-throughs with each project. Also, I have added a form to report "bad links." You can use this to report things like 1) a project or project site that no longer exists; 2) corrections to a listing; 3) a project that does not contain a download. Just to remind folks, this list is only for projects that are currently avaiable, and not for planning stage projects that you cannot download (which is part of what differentiates it from sites like RIAForge or CFOpen).

ColdFusion Position at Hasbro in Rhode Island

Posted on Oct 19, 2006

So, you think you can replace me? Prove it! ;) My old position at Hasbro is available. If you are a ColdFusion expert and either live in the Rhode Island area or are willing to relocate to Rhode Island, then you could help build sites for things like Star Wars, G.I. Joe and Transformers to name a few. The details of the position can be found here. One thing that is not in the description but I have been informed is that relocation assistance is available for out-of-state candidates. I can tell you that Hasbro is a good company to work for with a fun and casual atmosphere and the web development team there is a good group of guys...so apply now.

Update to Code Generator and Projects Page

Posted on Oct 18, 2006

I have made some updates to my Illudium PU-36 Code Generator in response to some questions about the generated service component. To be honest, I hadn't put the service code to use (I use a service layer, but just didn't use the generated code), so I hadn't noticed that the code made no sense. The current code should make a bit more sense. You can get the latest code from Subversion on my google code page, or as a zip file on RIAForge (I will try to keep that zip updated, but the Subversion repo is still your best bet).

Also, I have added a projects page to my site so that you can easily find my projects here. Of course the main one is the code generator, but there is also my sortable tables custom tag and an rss feed reading component. The point is, you would never know they were there previously.

Lastly, congrats to Ray and Ben for their launch of RIAForge. I think this is a very positive addition to the ColdFusion (and Adobe) open-source movement.

ColdFusion Open-Source Update - October 16

Posted on Oct 16, 2006

So much news this week... First, there are a number of new projects which look promising. Count 'em - six new projects...and, to be honest, I weeded out a number of interesting things that came up on CF-Talk due to lack of space and time. Also, as I posted earlier this week, the new version of the open source list has bee posted. Under the covers this was a complete rewrite with Mach II, ColdSpring and Transfer, but even "above the covers" it has a revised UI (feel free to share your feedback). Anyway, let's get to the new projects...
