ColdFusion Open-Source Update - June 26

Posted on Jun 26, 2006

So, there were a couple of big announcements this week, with both ColdSpring and Reactor having significant releases that emphasized documentation (yay!). However, other than that, we mostly had quite a bit of presentation material made available and a number of minor updates on existing projects. Before someone mentions it, I know CFEclipse 1.3 Beta was released, and I am quite excited. However, my posts and the list remain focused on open-source built with CFML, which is why I typically don't discuss it in my updates or having it on the list. With that, it's off to CFUnited...

Peter Bell is Blogging

Posted on Jun 25, 2006

Peter Bell of SystemsForge is finally blogging - now I can stop harrassing him :) Some of you may know Peter from his presentation at cf.objective(). Others of you may recognize the name from his regular contributions to lists like CFCDev. I think Peter brings a very unique perspective to the ColdFusion blogging community, and his primary topics of interest, "application generation", is one he is very knowledgeable and passionate about. Peter has often been of help to me in trying to transition into object-oriented development, and has a knack for asking pointed and intelligent questions that can generate some superb debate. You can find his blog at: http://www.pbell.com

My CFDJ article is going live today I was told and it covers how to build a form using Peter Farrell's LylaCAPTCHA to prevent misuse of your forms by spammers, but it also shows how to use Rob Gonda's ajaxCFC to validate the CAPTCHA prior to the form submission. Finally, it discusses how to allow your users to request a new CAPTCHA image (in case of illegibility) without requiring a page refresh. The code is available for download via the CFDJ site as well.

ColdFusion Open-Source Update - June 19

Posted on Jun 19, 2006

Holy crap, this was a busy week! I had to start writing this on Saturday just to get it done in time. The big news of the week was most certainly the first official public release of Model-Glue 2.0 beta. However, other big news included the release of ColdFusion on Wheels v0.5, Transfer v0.5 and FuseBox 5 beta 2. Plus we also had an announcement of a new framework by Luis Majano called ColdBox. With a little over a week to go before CFUnited, it looks like the rush is on to get projects released in time for some announcements and presentations at the conference.
