No More Frameworks Debate for Me
Posted on Sep 28, 2006
Well, if I ever did take part anyway...or if there ever really was a worthy debate. I saw Peter Bell's post trying to create debate on Mach ii and also Jared's comment on Peter Farrell's blog and I have decided I am going to just stay away (no offense to my friend PB). Excuse the rant, but I am peeved.
ColdFusion Open-Source Update - September 25
Posted on Sep 25, 2006
Perhaps the ColdFusion open-source world heard about how I am not sleeping well these days because of the new baby and decided to give me a rest this week (since we all know the world revolves around me ;). Nonetheless, this was as quiet a week as I have seen since I first started doing these posts back in April. In fact, there were no new projects and no major releases this week that I am aware of - and I think it has been a long while since that has happened.
ColdFusion Open-Source Update - September 18

Another three new projects were released this week: CFLog4J, CFCBlaster and Purchase Tracker. In addition, Sean Corfield and Mark Mandel have made some exciting updates to Transfer to allow you to integrate it with Model-Glue.
Objects and Frameworks - The Service Layer
Posted on Sep 17, 2006
During many of the mailing list discussions that I follow regarding object-oriented development in ColdFusion, we often get someone asking for help organizing their code properly. Inevitably someone mentions how you should keep business logic in the service layer. This will often elicit a response from the questioner that they understand beans, DAOs and gateways but don't know what the service layer is (or something along these lines). So what I would like to achieve here is a brief discussion of what the service layer is for beginners (therefore I am going to emphasize simplicity possibly over technical correctness at times).
Music for Your Work Week - Kish Mauve
Posted on Sep 13, 2006
In a comment to my last post, Matt Williams asked what happened to the "Music for Your Work Week" series of posts. Well, the answer is that I had been planning on it for a long time and it isn't for lack of good music. In fact, I am now a member of emusic and have been downloading stuff like crazy. Anyway, at first the break had to do with a lack of other technical posts and suddenly my blog was looking like a music blog...nonetheless, I am hereby bringing it back from extended hiatus and promise to post on a semi-weekly basis :)
Moving on, my pick for this week is a band called Kish Mauve. Their Kish Mauve and Modern Love EPs are available on both iTunes and emusic. They continue my fascination with retro-sounding electronica ("Retro-Electro-Rocktronica" was what I previosuly deemed it). I am particularly fond of "Come On" off of the Kish Mauve EP and "I'm in Love with a German Film Star" from Modern Love, but seeing as both EPs combine to a total of 5 songs, its worth the investment to get them all. Here's hoping a full-length album is on the way. And thanks Matt for kicking me in the butt and getting these posts started again.
