ColdFusion Open-Source Update - January 29

Posted on Jan 29, 2007

Two interesting new projects released this week (ok, CFCPowerTools isn't new, but I had not yet covered it) and a handful of updates. Also, I will take the opportunity to mention my interview with Kola and Nick of cfframeworks discussing a number of open-source frameworks. Now I always hear myself as a blithering idiot when I listen to my recorded voice, but I am sure you will find me simply a rambling fool ;) Anyway, speaking of rambling...

Want to Read Another Developer Persona? Well, Here's Mine Anyway.

Posted on Jan 26, 2007

In response to the meme that Tim Buntel (inadvertently) started, here is my developer persona:

  • 32 years old
  • Married for 9 years with 2 kids (one 4 and one only 5 months old) and two parrots (conures)
  • Drives a Mini Cooper
  • Bought our current home 2 years ago and just recently finished renovating it. It is in Boston, so we paid too much, but the neighborhood is great.
  • A recent Mac convert, though I have to use a PC for work.
  • I rarely get to go to the movies anymore. I think the only ones I saw recently were Casino Royale and Borat...is Borat up for best picture?
  • I watch Heroes, Grey's anatomy, Desperate Housewives and My Name is Earl (yeah, not much geeky scifi stuff...my wife mostly picks the shows but I enjoy them too ;)
  • No snowboarding or kayaking. My only real hobby anymore would be Xbox 360 when I have the time (and in the case of Gears of War I make the time)
  • Love Indian food and Sushi
  • I like all kinds of music, but mostly obscure electronic stuff (think Shiny Toy Guns, Kish Mauve or Lali Puna), straight pop with a female vocalist (Leigh Nash, Goldfrapp or Gwen Stefani) or Latin music (but no Ricky Martin...more like Ely Guerra or Julieta Venegas). I am addicted to my eMusic subscription which has tons of that stuff.
  • I almost never visit YouTube unless someone sends me a link (and I am not at work). I read too much new on New York Times online instead (I am a politics junkie).

CFEclipse 1.3 is Released

Posted on Jan 26, 2007

So, after all the fun clues it appears the wait is over (unless there is something more in the works???). I checked the update site this morning and CFEclipse 1.3 was there waiting for me to download :) Actually, the CFEclipse site appears as if it is being worked on at the moment (stylesheet missing perhaps). Anyway, congrats to Mark Drew and anyone else who contributed.

Conference Dates, Prices and Details

Posted on Jan 23, 2007

I put together this list of conferences I think are valuable to ColdFusion developers with some details for work and figured it might be useful to others out there. I hope to attend cf.Objective() and CFUnited at the very least. The others are on my wish list (and of course, it is far too soon for any Max details AFAIK). Did I miss any that you might recommend?

ColdFusion Open-Source Update January 22

Posted on Jan 22, 2007

A couple of interesting new releases this week, and a handful of updates. I am also starting to see a lot of tutorials in the CF "blogosphere" lately relating to open source projects (FarCry and Model-Glue being the most talked about it seems). I have always been an advocate of this as I think it adds to the unofficial documentation for projects, which can often overcome one of open-sources greatest weaknesses - poor documentation (this isn't to be construed in any way as commenting on MG or FarCry, just on open-source in general). Anyway, enough editorial...
