Flock 1.0 Review

After reading a review at TechCrunch I recently decided to give the Flock browser a try again (I had tried it way back in the early beta testing). As with any major software changes, I think you simply need to cut off usage of the alternative (in this case Firefox) for a week or two to force changes in your workflow and see how well a piece of software accomodates your needs. So, I went ahead and made Flock my default browser for the past two weeks and so far I would call it a mixed bag. There are a number of features I like and quite a few I don't, though overall I would say there is neither anything overly compelling to sway me in favor or against the browser. Part of this may have to do with the type of user the browser is targeting; let me explain.

No new projects this week but several updates and some important announcements. Specifically, there were a number of announcements by Chris Scott regarding a long awaited ColdSpring update. Personally, I am giving thanks this week that the University of Miami's football season is finally over (and what a disappointment to say the least). Now if we could just end the national nightmare that is the Miami Dolphins, I could live in peace. Ok, back to the regularly scheduled dose of open-source ColdFusion.

Only one new release but we can give thanks for a plentiful bounty of updates, announcements, tutorials and presentations. On a personal note, I will be giving thanks for 10 years with my wife this week, as our anniversary this year actually falls on Thanksgiving.

So, let's get this straight. You're ten dollar admission to Flex Camp Boston not only gets you a full day of some of the best Flex and AIR speakers, lunch, and a chance to win prizes like copies of Flex Builder and an Xbox 360 Halo Edition...but now you have the chance to win one of two tickets to the recently announced 360Flex in Atlanta or a ticket to next year's CFUnited in Washington, D.C. Special thanks to John Wilker and Tom Ortega of 360Conferences and Nafisa Sabu of Teratech for agreeing to support this event. Have you registered yet?
