Creating SalesForce Accounts and Contacts with ColdFusion
Posted on May 29, 2009
Just a quick example. I recently was tasked with adding contact form information directly into SalesForce. While the SalesForce API isn't that difficult, sometimes just getting the ins and outs of an API call can be time-consuming. Thankfully I was aware that Tom de Manincor had posted his SalesForceCFC on RIAForge. This component has thankfully already wrapped up the complexity of the API calls for you so all you need to do is a little bit of digging in the SalesForce API to understand what objects to create and methods to call.

Posted on May 27, 2009
So an object-oriented programming versus procedural programming debate is on fire in the ColdFusion community this week due to a thought-provoking rant by Marc Funaro. There have already been some excellent responses to the post as well as a some thoughtful comments. Some outside our community may wonder what all the fuss is about, seeing as this debate was decided a long time ago in the larger application development world. However, through these comments and within Marc's post, you can see that Marc touched a nerve with programmers - even some outside ColdFusion - that has brought forth an anger usually directed at unnamed "gurus" who have needlessly hoisted their OOP bias upon the masses. I would like to take a different angle on this debate and argue that it actually has very little to do with OOP at all.

Five new projects and one update this week in ColdFusion open source. Sorry for the lateness on this post but between the late nights of drinking at 360|Flex last week and another late night of drinking with my friend backstage at The National concert at The House of Blues, I am still recovering. However, I learned a lot. First, I learned that the community is doing some pretty damn amazing things with Flex and AIR (there are some seriously smart people developing in Flex). The second is that The National party to Nelly and Cee-lo on their tour bus, which might be a surprise to you if you are familiar with The National's music.

Just a quick note to let readers know that my review of the 360Flex conference was just posted to InsideRIA. As you may have noticed by reading my session summaries, it was a great conference - but I will let you get rest from the review. Thanks to Rich Tretola for adding me as an InsideRIA contributor and I look forward to contributing more.
360Flex - Doug McCune on Cool Stuff in ActionScript and Flex
Posted on May 20, 2009
First of all, Doug's session was not called "Cool Stuff" but I sanitized the title for those of you reading this at work (the session description was equally colorful). There was a lot of anticipation about Doug's presentation and in fact people were waiting outside the room early just to get a seat. His presentation is about finding inspiration in what you do and finding the time to do things that remind you why you love what you do (in this case, Flex development).
