Top 2 "Hidden" Help Features in Flash Builder

Posted on Sep 27, 2011

As a Flex and ActionScript developer, more than likely you rely heavily upon the ActionScript Language Reference/ASDoc. Of course, you can always open the ASLR via the web interface. However, sometimes you prefer to have quick access to help within your IDE. For those situations, there are a number of features within Flash Builder to access ASDoc that you may not already be aware of.

To give credit where credit is due, these tips are based upon a post by my colleague Mallika Yelandur.

Cool Stuff with the Flash Platform - Pre-MAX Edition 2011

Posted on Sep 26, 2011

It is hard to believe that MAX is less than one week away. For any of you interested in meeting up with me, I will be attending and TA-ing a number of sessions as well as speaking at the FITC Unconference on Monday afternoon. I know there will be many very exciting announcements coming - though to be honest many are a surprise to even me. Can't wait!

Of course, the big news this week was the Flash Player 11 and AIR 3 announcement that generated tons of buzz and quite a few of the posts in this week's list. It received some notable, and generally very positive, coverage in places like the New York Times, Mashable and GigaOm to name just a few (though, sadly, the NY Times article did reprint the rather widespread misstatement that Windows 8 won't support Flash). Adobe evangelist Ryan Stewart had a great overview of all the news and announcements in Flash Player 11, AIR 3 and Flex/Flash Builder 4.6.

I particularly want to highlight the many tutorials from Andrew Trice this week including how to publish your application from Flash Builder to the Android Market, iOS App Store, Amazon App Store and Nook Store.

Cool Stuff with the Flash Platform - 9/8/2011

Posted on Sep 08, 2011

This week features a number of showcase mobile applications, many from Adobe evangelists, and some details about the native extensions features in the new AIR 3 beta on Adobe Labs. However, my favorite link of the week goes to Jeff Fulton who wrote an excellent post on why he still loves the Flash Platform. Before you start rolling your eyes thinking this is typical fanboy defense of Flash, give it a read. Jeff not only makes a solid case for why he thinks Flash makes him more productive but also talks about the many other technologies he has and continues to explore. His point being, you can love Flash without hating everything else.
