Mark Mandel Transfer ORM Breeze Presentation

As part of my efforts to use the Adobe Community Expert provided Breeze account to promote open source projects, I will be hosting Mark Mandel who will be discussing his Transfer ORM (object relational mapper). Mark will be presenting via Breeze and will be specifically covering new features in the latest release (version 0.6) now in public beta. The presentation will be on Monday, November 6 at 4pm EST (that is actually 8am Mark's time in Melbourne, Australia I believe). If you would like to attend, please RSVP by commenting on this post.As many of you may already know, I have personally used Transfer to build my recent update to the ColdFusion Open Source List and I was really impressed. The following is Mark's description of the presentation:

When developing an Object Oriented web based application, it is normal to have a database with relational tables and a series of objects that represent that data. Often, the amount of time and effort it takes to manually map these objects back and forth from a database is large, and can be very costly.

Object Relational Mappers (ORM) were developed to cut down the amount of time this process takes, and automate the translation between a relational database and an Object Oriented system.

Transfer ORM's main focus is to automate the repetitive tasks of creating the SQL and custom CFCs that are often required when developing a ColdFusion application. Through a central configuration file Transfer knows how to generate objects, and how to manage them and their relationships back to the database.

This presentation will outline the basics of what an Object Relational Mapper is, and the use case for using one within web application development.

From there the presentation will look at Transfer, its main capabilities and how some examples of how it is utilized.

Please RSVP by commenting below. The URL for the presentation is http://adobechats.adobe.acrobat.com/r89706524/, but please RSVP so we can know how many people to expect.

Sorry about this, but I messed up the time - it is 4pm not 3pm. I corrected the post, and just let me know if that changes whether or not you can make it.

I'd like to attend please! (Yes, I already use Transfer but I often learn new stuff about a framework / library when the author presents on it)

I'd love to attend the presentation, but I have a meeting with a client at that time. Any chance that you'll be recording it?

Thanks.

Hey Brian, sounds interesting. Since you'll be recording it, can I ask you also to add the URL for the recording (when done) to the UGTV repository of recorded presentations? It's a very simple process (just need title and URL, and your name and email--which is not exposed, and other fields are optional). It's another great way to share the presentation to a wide audience. Thanks in advance.

tof
yes, count me in. Although if Mark shoots the preso at work, i might watch it on his screen, it's bigger than mine :D.
