ColdFusion Open-Source Update - August 28

Posted on Aug 28, 2006

This was a busy week. A new beta of Mach ii was released and we added another 3 new open-source projects: Wininfo, gCal and Kalendar (funny there wasn't even a calendar category on the open-source list before two weeks ago and suddenly there are 3 projects in there).

Speaking of the list, I am moving along with a wholesale rewrite of it (built with mach ii and coldspring). In part this will be the first step to adding a bunch of new features. It is also a rework of the user interface. Along the user interface lines, I hope to post a "preview" (read - work in progress) sometime perhaps this week to get some feedback.Mach ii
Version 1.1.1 Beta Released
Matt Woodward announces that he and Peter Farrell have released the public beta of version 1.1.1 of Mach ii. While ostensibly a maintenance release, Matt and Peter have discussed many interesting "features" and changes in the new release. In fact, they will be covering this very topic at length in tomorrow's What's New in Mach ii 1.1.1 Breeze presentation tomorrow (there are still a few spots left - so sign up). I have put the new version on my laptop and had no issues with the few things I have running Mach ii (though it did take a server restart to clear out caching).

WinInfo
New Project Released
Nathan Strutz released a new project (in pre-alpha) that is a hybrid c# command line application executed via the included ColdFusion component. The combination gives you access to detailed system information (via Windows it appears) such as disk space and detailed folder information. Nathan is looking for feedback to further the development of this project.

gCal
Version 1.0 Released
Todd Sharp has released gCal based upon Ray Camden's GoogleCal. It is a flash-form-based applciation that displays events that you have stored in your Google Calendar. It includes a schedules task for sending reminders to your mobile phone.

Kalendar
New Project Released
Another calendar related entry comes from TJ Downes called Kalendar. It is a calendaring application written for CFMX 7 and currently supporting MSSQL and MySQL. To get a good sense of Kalendar's features, you can go to the demo

Canvas
Version 1.5 Released
The latest version of Ray Camden's Canvas includes a number of user contributed changes and features. Scott Stroz fixed some css related issues. Sam Curren added page sub-navigations and linkable titles. Finally, Chad Gray added some new rendering functions like strikethrough, subscript, superscript and colors.

FarCry
Version 4 Overview Part 4 and Part 5
Jeff Coughlin releases the last two in his series of tutorials related to the latest version of the FarCry CMS. Anyone interested in using FarCry 3 will find this very useful, especially since (at my last check) the official documentation for this version was lacking (most of the documentation related to the prior version which looked quite different).

PicViewer
Version 1.1 Released
This version adds RSS feeds to each picViewer instance.

Lighthouse Pro
Version 2.0.6 Released
This is a maintenance release that contains mostly "cosmetic" changes.

Comments

Nathan Mische Jeff Coughlin's overview is for FarCry 3.0. FarCry is not quite up to version 4 yet, but version 3.0.2 is currently a release candidate.
