ColdFusion Open-Source Update - June 26
Posted on Jun 26, 2006
So, there were a couple of big announcements this week, with both ColdSpring and Reactor having significant releases that emphasized documentation (yay!). However, other than that, we mostly had quite a bit of presentation material made available and a number of minor updates on existing projects. Before someone mentions it, I know CFEclipse 1.3 Beta was released, and I am quite excited. However, my posts and the list remain focused on open-source built with CFML, which is why I typically don't discuss it in my updates or having it on the list. With that, it's off to CFUnited...ColdSpring
ColdSpring 1.0 Final Released
Dave Ross points out that the primary difference between this and release candidate 1 is the quality and quantity of the documentation. However, as that is the curse of most open-source project (i.e. the lack of good documentation), this is a significant milestone nonetheless. And having briefly gone through the docs, they appear well thought out and thorough. Congrats to Dave and Chris and all who contributed.
Reactor
Reactor Reaches Beta Candidate 2
Doug Hughes posts that the API for Reactor appears to be stable and he is hard at work on updating the documentation, which he considers a prerequisite before hitting beta. He is also working on a nightly build system for releasing the latest code.
Model-Glue
Model-Glue: Unity Gets Faster
Joe Rhinehart posted about hwo removing the strict typing on Model-Glue based upon Sean Corfield's suggestions netted significant performance gains for the framework. This inevitably led to alot of questions and debate, which Sean promised to answer in the "Heresy! Embracing Duck Typing in CFCs" talk at CFUnited, which he took over for Hal Helms.
ColdBox
ColdBox Dashboard Preview
Luis Majano released some additional screenshots and details regarding his soon-to-be-released framework named ColdBox. The framework comes with an (optional) prebuilt dashboard for maintainence and configuration. It includes features like auto-update to the latest released version, a built in config editor, a backups panel, and plenty of documentation. Personally, the more Luis releases, the more interesting his framework sounds. I am still planning to give it a run through shortly, but schedules have gotten in the way. Look for some posts about this in the near future however.
FuseBox 5
Fusebox 5 Release Candidate on Target
Sean Corfield posted that a public release candidate should be ready in time to be announced at CFUnited this week. He also posted a public thank you to the people who have helped out with the upcoming release.
