Forgive me for getting off topic here, but I want to discuss a pet theory of mine about a subject near and dear to my heart - the Miami Hurricanes and the Miami Dolphins. We fans of either (or both) team know how far a team can fall quickly, but I think there is more to it than that...I think there is the ominous sign of the beast at work here.Take, for instance, that it was a mere 4 years ago that Miami saw a national championship ripped from its grasp by a highly questionable pass interference call. It was also a mere 4 years ago that the Miami Dolphins lost their last good chance at a playoff spot to a tie-breaker. Coincidence? I think not. To quote Dana Carvey as the Church Lady, "could it be, Satan?"
Yet it was 2003 that the Florida Marlins won the World Series...immediately following the start of the football decline. Now it is this year, in which either team, the Hurricanes or the Dolphins, once considered contenders in their respective divisions, are competing for the bottom of the barrel...the same year the Heat win a very unlikely NBA championship! You still think this is not a sure sign of the hand of the some kind of evil power? So the question is, who has made this dark agreement, selling the soul of a football town for some basketball and baseball championships? Was it you Riley? No, perhaps it was Huizenga...yes, that makes sense.
Ok, so of course this is a big joke, just like the Miami Dolphins and the Hurricanes season. Actually the Hurricanes are more embarrassing this year than funny, and it has less to do with their losses. By the way, I am a Heat fan...so I enjoyed that anyway.
OK Brian - are you ready for some more eerie coincidences? Name the city that has not had a professional sports championship since 1964? The same town who lost the 1997 world series to the Florida Marlins. The same town, just 2 1/2 hours north of the Columbus, Ohio - the beneficiary of your 'supposed' questionable pass interference call in 2002. The same town who's football team is currently 2-5 with no hope of even breaking .500 let alone make the playoffs. The same town who's basketball team _almost_ made it to the eastern conference finals to face your Heat. Yeah, you guessed it - Cleveland. Try living here if you think you have bad sports luck.... ;)

Todd, I feel your pain. However, you did "steal" the championship from my beloved Hurricanes a short 4 years ago and do appear on your way to another NCAA national title. Meanwhile, the football program at UM is not only not winning, but shaming the entire university - both by the behavior of the players but by the reaction of the administration. I will grant you that the Browns are a sad story...and here I thought Butch Davis would have whipped them into shape a few years ago...but I think their problems are institutional, but what I wouldn't give for 2 victories ;)
