This is the first update of the new year and there are a ton of sample applications, tutorials and announcements over the past few weeks. Once again there is continued interest and releases in Stage3D and continued innovation using AIR native extensions on the desktop. There was also a lot of activity regarding the new Apache Flex project including a very busy mailing list which shows a high level of continued community interest in the platform.

Yasunobu Ikeda posted a number of Away3D 4.0 demos this week. The first is a filter demo that allows you to choose different filters, such as a radial blur, on a running sample. The next is a dynamic shadow demo (links temporarily broken - should be demo and source). The next demo uses Away3D and Flint for a particle demo. The final demo shows off a depth of field blur.

Both tutorials include source.

The latest release of the AIR native extension for working with Microsoft Kinect, AIRKinect version 1.6, was released. You can see a demo of the new player masking demo which extracts the pixels of a player similar to using a green screen.

Speaking of Kinect, Michael Ivanov posts a demo, with source, of a simple game using Away3D, AwayPhysics and Kinect.

Cool Mobile & Devices Stuff (Android, iOS, Blackberry, Television)
